San Diego-The Hotel and Cousin Elizabeth

This is a random assortment of pictures at the hotel.  I was very worried about sharing one room with the kids, but we managed.  After we put chairs in front of Abby’s crib so she couldn’t see us, she did a lot better.  Adam had a hard time falling asleep each nap or night because we stayed up with the light on to read.  And even with blackout curtains, they were up way too early every morning!  The worst part was that they both had coughs so they coughed throughout the night and would wake up crying and disoriented.  They both also had goopy eyes for several days.  It figures they would have strange illness on vacation.  I guess it could’ve been worse! :)

Abby eating snacks on the floor after swimming.  I tried to keep the snacks contained to the bowl.  I don’t want to think about the hotel carpet.  But, whatever.DSCF6936

Abby had super cute, curly hair while we were there!  It reminded me of Adam’s blond curls in Mexico in 2009.  Strangely enough, her hair seems more curly now than it did before, and if I spray it wet and put hairspray or some gel in, it stays curly most of the day.DSCF6937

Chillin’ with Daddy watching a movie.  We had lots of down time….on purpose.  With little kids, it was nice to not be going nonstop all the time.DSCF6998

My cousin Elizabeth and her husband live in San Diego.  Jason is in the Navy and was ‘at sea’ training while we there (he’s being deployed later this year) so we went out to dinner with Elizabeth and some of her sweet friends who are taking good care of her.  Both her and Jason’s families are in South Carolina and my immediate family in Utah are the closest relatives.  I was happy to see she wasn’t all alone out there!

They tried to take us to some cliffs to see the sunset but we missed it by about 10 minutes.  It was still a beautiful sight though.  There is something about crashing waves and misty air that gets to me.  I love the ocean!DSCF7198_thumb

Isn’t it strange how the camera picks up all the water molecules in the air?DSCF7199_thumb

Elizabeth and the 3 of us (Abby was zonked out in the car).
Can you tell that we’re related? :)DSCF7202

San Diego-Seaport Village and a Seal Tour

On our last day we went to Seaport Village, did a little window shopping, and then went on Seal Tour.

The look on his face sums it up.  He wasn’t a fan of the bird on his shoulder.DSCF7205

Our Seal Tour was on an amphibious vehicle that starts off on land, then goes into the water.  I thought Adam would love this and he did!DSCF7229

It took about 15 minutes to drive from Seaport Village to the marina and the boat/car was doing about 50 mph and it was windy and freezing!  But once we got into the water and cruised at about 5 mph, it was really nice.DSCF7216

They took us out to a popular seal hangout.  Abby kept pointing and yelling, “dog, dog!”.DSCF7220

We also went past the Navy dolphin training facility and from a distance, could see dolphins as they jumped out of the water in their holding pens.

A real treat was that we saw 2 or 3 wild dolphins!  Our guide said he hadn’t seen wild dolphins in 3 months.  I don’t have any pictures because I was trying to film and still see them live.  It was cool knowing they were wild animals and not the show animals we’d seen at SeaWorld or trained dolphins for the Navy.  (Interesting tidbit about the Navy dolphins….they train them to go out ahead of ships and scout out any unfamiliar objects in the water and then come back and report to the officers.  Somehow they can push certain buttons with their noses to answer questions about what they find.  It’s crazy how smart they are!)

After our Seal Tour we went to the beach….stay tuned!
