Abby’s Christmas Dance Recital

Abby has been taking dance since September and had her first recital December 4th.  The class is for 4-5 year olds, but since she is so close to turning 4, her teacher, Miss Laura let her in.  Miss Laura has told me several times that Abby is the most focused student in her class and follows directions much better than some of the 5 year olds.

Her recital was at this fun theater.

Her birthday is just before Abby’s, so they have been the old kids in nursery together and will head to Sunbeams in January…..finally!Abby and Ariana

And here is her dance!

She had professional pictures taken last week in her costume and was SUCH a little ham!  I’m excited to see how they turned out!

Adam’s LEGO Birthday Party

DSCN0174

We have now officially entered the world of the BIRTHDAY PARTY.  I’ve put off having a friend party for a few years, but it was inevitable that he would figure out that other kids have awesomely fun birthday parties and that he’d want one too. :)

He loves LEGOs and chose that as his theme.  My awesome friend had blogged about her son’s LEGO party so I copied a lot of her ideas and turned to good ‘ole Pinterest for inspiration.  So, here was Adam’s 6th birthday party!

I thought his invitation turned out really cute!Adam's birthday invite.redacted

As the boys were arriving, they colored a LEGO man outline while we waited for everyone.  I don’t have any pictures, but they were cute!

The highlight of the party was building cars and having a race!DSCN0133

Racing!
It was funny how some cars went wonky and fell off the board and some went perfectly straight.  We did several heats and declared a winner.

Although not the fastest, Abby’s car was actually the one that went the farthest after crossing the finish line.  Daddy says she did most of the work.  Uh-huh.

For lunch we had pizza and Kool-aid.  Apparently Adam has never had Kool-aid before and declared it delicious!DSCN0146

They then played “Pin the Head on the LEGO man”DSCN0150

Presents!!

A blue LEGO brick cake.
The frosting.  Oh, the frosting.  I’m focusing on the fact that it was a delicious, perfectly baked homemade chocolate cake.  That’s what really counts right?

A very happy birthday boy!

Baby Brother liked the cake too!DSCN0171

After cake they all ran upstairs and had crazy, hyper fun.  Honestly, I think that was their favorite part of the whole party!  I think next year I’m just going to invite all his friends over and tell them to go play!

The party favor table.
I put circles on the bags to make them look like a LEGO brick.  I tied balloons onto mason jars filled with Duplos, for this table and also the big table.  It’s all in the details right?  Because 6 year old boys really notice the details.
DSCN0177

Inside the favor bags were stickers, a maze toy, LEGO candy (you can actually build with them….pretty cool!), crayons shaped like LEGO men and bricks that I proudly made myself, a LEGO Club Jr. magazine and they also got to take home their race cars.DSCN0125.1

It was fun and crazy and most importantly my boy was happy.  He gave me lots of thank you hugs the rest of the day.  I can’t believe my baby boy is 6.  Nearly.  He still has 5 more days of being 5 and I’m going to savor each one!

Family Pictures

We had family pictures taken back in July when we were in Utah.  I finally got the images edited and I really like how they turned out.

The 5 of us.  So perfect.  How did I get so lucky?

I love this picture.  It captures him really well!IMG_8240-Edit

Abigail
I had such a hard time choosing which of these I wanted to hang on the wall.  We went with this one.  I love her little 3 year old self!  On a side note, I was holding her hand while crossing a street the other day and it hit me that her small little hand is not going to last forever.  I really don’t want her to turn 4.  Sniff.

I also love this one….

Mr. Caleb Mark
Despite the pretzel and muddy hang, I’m hanging this on the wall.  It captures his baby face and sparkling eyes perfectly.

He wasn’t very cooperative for all the group shots.  Someone finally gave him some food and he turned into a silly boy!

4 months have past since these were taken and he’s already grown and changed so much.  The change from baby to toddler happens so quickly.  More sniffs.

Adam the Reader!

Adam completed All About Reading Level 1 today!!  He has worked very hard on his lessons and is reading SO well!  He has mastered every single one of the 174 sight words in this level.  I gave him a little word test I found online and I’m guessing he’s reading at about a 2nd grade level!  He absolutely loves to read to us and to himself.  He takes piles of books into his bed and reads them on his own and he reads his Book of Mormon multiple times a day!  I love that he LOVES to read!  I know it doesn’t come easily for many kids, and I truly think this is one of his gifts and talents.  Plus, All About Reading is awesome!!
DSCN9902

We started basically exactly 1 year ago, on 10/10/12 and finished on 10/25/13.  It took longer than it should have because we had a long break while we moved and then while trying to settle in and get my bearings in a new state.

Here is Adam when we finished Level Pre-1.  The change in him between the two pictures took my breath away!  I still see him as that little almost 5 year old and not this big, almost 6 year old!  My baby is growing up too fast!!
DSCN5377

To celebrate his big accomplishment, we went out to dinner and he chose Buffalo Wild Wings.  We gave him a little gift.
DSCN9906

Chapter books!  Well, beginner chapter books.  I just got these from Usborne as a recommendation to bridge the gap between readers and chapter books.
DSCN9909

He immediately cracked one open to read while waiting for our food.  And he read in the car all the way home!
DSCN9910

I love the way he reads!  He is so expressive and does great voices!

We both can’t wait to start Level 2!

Caleb the 18 Month Old

IMG_8269

My baby is 18 months old!!!  He is busy, fun, active, loud, and loves to mimic!

He weighs 22 lbs. 14 oz. – 30th percentile
He is 32.5 in. tall – 50th percentile

That would explain why I can’t find pants that fit.  They are either too short, or too big around the waist so he is frequently sporting the awesome safety pin look.

He is talking a lot these days and will mimic pretty much anything we ask him to say.  Some of the words that he pronounces cute are:

Apple – “a-po”
Cheese – “sheeez”
Juice – “yuice”
Hello – “heh-ro”
Adam – “a-duh”
Abby – "ah….beeee”
Binky – “deedee”
Puppy/Dog Dog – “dah dah” (I tried calling his dog lovey Puppy to distinguish it from Abby’s Doggie/Dog Dog, but he calls it “dah dah” anyway)
He said Dada for a long time and just in the past month or so calls me Mama!

He also knows a bunch of signs.  Off the top of my head:

milk, all done, cracker, apple, cheese, more, sleep, bath time, diaper change, drink, eat, please, wind, train, (speaking of train, every time he hears a train horn, he gasps and stands still and then signs and says “tay” and then keeps making little gasping noises while raising his eyebrows).

He always has the most awesome bed head!  As soon as I lay him down in his crib, he crawls over to the same corner, smashes his head up into it, and takes the stink-bug position.
DSCN9774

This is how he folds his arms for prayers.  About half the time he’ll say, “a-meh” at the end.
DSCN9836

He loves to read books!  Before naptime and bedtime, he either chooses a book himself from his book basket, or he wants me to go through them and he shakes his head and says “noooo” to each one until I get to whatever book he wants and then he just smiles and points.  His favorites at the moment are “Moo Baa La La La”, “Mommy’s Best Kisses”, “You and Me Baby”, and any of our lift the flap Shapes, Colors, Sizes, or Numbers books.
DSCN9789

During school time, he is either playing on his own, or sitting on my lap.  On this day, I left the room, (probably to grab the camera to take a picture of whatever the big kids were doing) and came back to this.  He wants to be big so badly!
DSCN9794

I really need to make sure to take time to play with him.  Poor 3rd child in a homeschool family!  I feel very guilty when it comes to my lack of time engaging 1-on-1 with him.  He was so thrilled when I sat down during school to play with him!
 DSCN9511

Another example of wanting to be big!  I laughed so hard when I found him with his own laptop, next to the kids playing the iPad and Xoom.
DSCN9810

He’s starting to get into our “Baby Signing Time” DVDs.  His attention only lasts about 5 minutes and then he plays and walks around while semi-watching.  When the theme song comes on he squeals and runs to sit on the couch!
DSCN9487

I’m head over heels for this boy!
