- Adam is 39 months old and Abby is 13 months old -
This week for Tot School we read “The Runaway Bunny” by Margaret Wise Brown, the same author who wrote “Goodnight Moon”.
We did a few activities from the Before Five in a Row manual and a few from Homeschool Share.
One of the illustrations in “The Runaway Bunny” is a picture of the mother bunny fishing for her little bunny in a stream. That same picture is hanging on the wall in an illustration in “Goodnight Moon”. Likewise, the picture of the cow jumping over the moon from “Goodnight Moon” is hanging on the wall in an illustration in “The Runaway Bunny”. Adam thought it was pretty neat to see the matching pictures and now every time we read either story, he points out the picture from the other book.
Rabbit Image Match
He struggled with this at first so we talked about all the little details of each image until he could find it’s match.
After reading the story a few times, we worked through matching “If’ and “Then” cards. In the story, the little bunny says he will turn into something so he can run away and his mother responds with something like, “If you turn into a trout, then I will become a fisherman and fish for you”. Adam did pretty well remembering the parts of the story and matching the cards.
I saw this idea on the blog Delightful Learning and thought it would be fun to do with Adam. I asked him the following “What Would You Do If…” questions and here are his answers:
What would you do if…
- you were locked in a candy store? “Take candy….to you!”
- you were scared of the dark? “I will run”
- you woke up and there was an elephant in the front yard? “I will run downstairs and sit on the couch and wait for you"!”
- you were lost at the grocery store and couldn’t find me? “I would drive to my own house!”
- someone walked inside with muddy shoes? “I would say, “Don’t get the floor muddy!”
- your friend was crying? “Come in here (the living room). To find you.”
- it started raining cookies? “I will eat ‘em!”
His favorite activity was pretending to be a bunny!
He spent a long time under the table in his “burrow”.
Abby thought her bunny ears were hysterical and they used the play food to have a yummy carrot and lettuce snack in their burrow. It’ll be fun when Abby actually knows what’s going on! :)
Here are some of the other things we did during the week.
The big hit was my new iPad! Adam LOVES playing games on it and asks for it constantly!
Adam has struggled with patterns so I haven’t bothered working on them lately. I pulled out this pattern file folder game and to my surprise, he did it correctly!
24-Piece Puzzle
We worked on this together and he did pretty well!
