Abby is 10 Months Old Today

Little Miss Abigail is already 10 months old!  She is so fun and Adam absolutely loves her and they are constantly making each other laugh.
She is now walking along furniture and getting more and more brave at letting go and slowly sitting herself down rather than falling.

She still has no teeth, which is kind of odd to me.  It makes her seem more babyish than she really is!  I’ve been hesitant to give her real food because she has nothing to chew with, but just the other night she had ravioli, peas, and carrots and loved it!  And today I gave her a little cheese cut up into tiny pieces and she devoured them.  I guess I need to start giving her more food even though she’s toothless!

Just like her big brother did, she LOVES to help with the dishes!  As soon as she hears me open the dishwasher she is over in an instant pulling out silverware and banging on pans.  Every time I’m done I say, “All done, thank you!” in a high pitched sing-songey voice and I would gently push her down on her bum.  Well now I just have to say “All done, thank you!” and she sits automatically!  What a good little girl.

She signs “milk” perfectly and seems to understand “diaper change”, “eat”, and “drink”.
She will sometimes repeat us when we say, Da-Da or Ma-Ma or Num-Num and she loves to wave bye-bye.

She sure is a fun baby!

I’m Making Stockings!

Well, I’m attempting to make stockings.  I grew up with coordinating stockings and I’ve been waiting to get ones for our little family since Adam was born.  Unfortunately, the ones I would love to get are really expensive.

I made this rag quilt for Adam out of flannel and cotton and it turned out so cute so I had the idea to do kind of the same thing on stockings. 
I searched around online and came across a cute pattern for ragged cotton stockings with little appliques on the front.  The pattern came with 6 applique designs so I am going to make 6 coordinating stockings (2 to save for future babies hopefully!).  Before I went and bought all the fabric, I did a trial run with some random fabric I had lying around.  I’m so happy I did because I messed up a few times and figured out better ways to do other things.

So here’s my trial stocking.  It was actually really easy to put together.  This is before I snipped the seams and washed it.  After being snipped and washed
I will add batting between the layers on the actual stockings to give them some soft puffiness.  I also discovered that I should follow the pattern’s suggestion and use homespun cotton because apparently it frays better.  This cotton (or whatever it was) hardly frayed at all in the wash.  I’m also going to tweak the shape of the stocking a little.

I want to have our names embroidered on them but I don’t want to do it myself because they won’t be perfect and it’ll forever drive me crazy.  I think I’ll try and find someone that has one of those fancy machines that embroiders for you.  Anyone have one of those? :)

Just Call Me “Four-Eyes”

No, these are not my glasses….they aren’t quite that bad.

I really, really hate wearing my glasses!

I have a Lasik consultation on Monday so I have to be contact-free for 5 long days!

Some people have stylish glasses and look great in them….not me.
I have a cheap pair of glasses that were only ever meant to be worn in the morning before I shower. That’s it.
They are bent from babies pulling on them.
They do not flatter my face whatsoever.
They make my left ear hurt.
I can’t see to do my hair or put on makeup.

I’m not complaining though….I am blessed (possibly….that’s what the consultation is for) to get a great deal on Lasik which I have been dreaming about since I was a teenager.

I just have to make it through The Forgotten Carols tonight and church on Sunday.  Other than that, I don’t care because I’m cooped up in my house.

I’ll end on one positive.  Last night I marveled at how untired and undry my eyes were after a day in glasses!

Disclaimer:  I’d never dream of actually calling someone “Four-Eyes”.  I have nothing against people who wear glasses, I just hate mine!

Adam’s Birthday Party

We had a party for Adam on his birthday and unfortunately, because of a bad snowstorm, Nat’s family wasn’t able to make it.  But, we still had fun and Adam loved his special day!

Some favorite presents included his very first Xbox game from Daddy!  He loves to “play” the racing games so Nat found a “Cars” game just for him.

This birthday was a really fun one.  It’s the first time he’s really known what a birthday party is and he talked about it every day for a week leading up to it.  We’re a little worried about how he’ll handle his sister’s birthday in a couple of months!

Happy 3rd Birthday Adam!

My sweet boy turned three today!  Adam is such a happy, social little guy.  He is learning so fast and watching his funny personality grow has been so much fun!  We love you Adam Paul!

I’m a Little Sad Tonight

I’m a little sad tonight because tomorrow my baby b0y will be 3 years old.  Tonight is the last night that I rocked and sang to my 2 year old.  Why does that make me so weepy?  I’ve thought of Adam as 3 years old for many months now, but the finality of him leaving his toddlerhood behind is really sad!  I love watching my babies grow and I’m excited for what this next year of his life will bring, but I just wish time would slow down a little bit.

Don’t even get me started on the fact that my actual baby will be 1 in just 2 1/2 months!

I bought this Melissa & Doug Stack & Sort Board from Amazon for Abby and somehow ended up ordering 2 so now I have an extra one that I don’t need. It cost me $8.71 so if anyone local is interested, I’ll sell it to you for $8.00. It says for ages 2 and up, but I think a baby as young as 1 could learn how to put the shapes on the pegs. You could then use it to teach colors, shapes, counting, and sorting.

So….anyone looking for a Christmas/birthday gift just let me know!

Success!

We have been potty training Adam for the past 2 weeks and it’s going great this time!  When I tried a couple months ago he had accident after accident.  This time, I started him off with being naked from the waist down and that did the trick.  He was accident free the first day!  We slowly worked up to wearing undies during the day (except for nap) and for the most part, he stays dry.  There have been a few little accidents but nothing too bad….other than the one poopy accident a couple of days ago.  Not fun for me. 

This picture is him saying “Yay!” for pooping in the potty for the first time yesterday.  I thought potty training would be so much better than changing diaper, but really, you still have to wipe their bums and clean up accidents.  I’ll just keep reminding myself about the cost savings of only having one kid in diapers.

His 3rd birthday is only 9 days away…my baby boy is growing up!

Little Miss Abby at 9 Months Old

Abby turned 9 months old on Tuesday!  She is growing into a busy, crazy little girl!  I swear she is more active than Adam was.  She is constantly trying to climb on everything!  She pulls herself up on whatever she can (and frequently has bruises on her forehead from falling head first onto the furniture) and is crawling over the place.  This new stage has thrown Adam for a loop because now his baby sister can come after his toys.  We’re working on sharing.  Or at least not grabbing the toy away and yelling, “Seriously Abs!”

Here are her stats from her check-up yesterday:

Weight: 16 lbs. 14 oz. (20th percentile)
Height: 27 in. (50th percentile)

Just like Adam she is slowing down in the weight department.  But, she is SO active so the doctor says she’s just burning lots of calories every day.  Still no teeth though!

With learning to stand comes this….I spend lots of time having to go lay her back down when she’s supposed to be napping.  She hasn’t quite learned how to sit back down and then lay down from there.

Her new trick, “Soooo big!”

Bruised legs already!Adam didn’t start bruising his legs until he was walking.  It’s funny how they are opposites.  Adam is a social butterfly but timid when it comes to physical things.  Abby is more weary of people but has NO fear physically.
