Playing Together

Although most of the time Adam doesn't pay much attention to Abby, (unless he's in the kissing/hugging mood and then it's a little overkill), the other day I tried to foster some sibling bonding by suggesting Adam help his baby sister look at her toys. He really liked helping and even shared some of his stuffed animals....briefly. I'm really looking forward to them being able to actually play together in the future.

Abigail's Nursery

I meant to post these pictures before Abby was born but now, nearly a month later, I'm finally getting around to it! So here is Miss Abigail's nursery (although she never goes in it...she will eventually!)

I wanted a place to hold all her cute little headbands and bows so I painted these flower pegs and attached ribbons and voila! The only problem is that they're already full and I'm sure there are many more bows in her future.

Thank Goodness for the Olympics!

We picked a very good time to have a baby! The Olympics are on pretty much any time of day or night which is especially good for a Mommy and Daddy that are up in the middle of the night trying to stay awake long enough to change a diaper/clothes/diaper again/feed/burp/feed again....I'd much rather watch the Olympics than infomercials anyday.


And here are a few pictures of Abby looking like a little girl! She very rarely has headbands and bows on but it's fun to dress her up for a few minutes!

Abigail Elizabeth

Our sweet Abigail Elizabeth was born on Tuesday the 9th at 4:53 pm.
She weighed a whopping 5 lbs. 12 oz. and was 18 inches long.

She's teeny! It was a long labor but a very quick delivery. I was stuck at 3-4 cm for hours and hours and sometime after 4:00 pm I just crumbled from exhaustion and started crying. The crying made me gag, which made me vomit, which apparently helped move the baby down and dilate my cervix because when the nurse came in to check after seeing my contractions going off the charts, I was 9.5 cm! She got the other nurses quickly setting things up and just as my doctor was walking in the room, she was lifting my leg into the stirrup and saw that I was crowning. The doctor said, "Get me some gloves!" and then seconds later I heard her say, "You're having a contraction" and she pushed on my stomach and out came Abby! I barely had time to realize she was coming and then she was being placed on my chest. It was an amazing experience and I'm so lucky to have had 2 wonderful births.

Abby is nursing great (such a difference than my experience with Adam!) and is healthy as can be. She likes to be awake at night and has marathon feedings of 4-5 hours. I think I've gotten 3-5 hours of sleep each night since she was born. I don't really know how I'm functioning!

Adam is sometimes enthralled with Abby and sometimes barely notices she's around. He likes to kiss her and touch her and is really sweet with her. We have to remind him that he can't poke her eyes, pull her hair, or stick his finger in her mouth when she yawns. He has had lots of attention from Daddy, Nana and Papa, and my brother and sister-in-law. I feel like I never see him though since I'm quite frequently busy nursing the baby or trying to wake her up enough to nurse!

Both Nat and I can't believe how big Adam seems to us now. It's like he's gained 10 lbs. and grown 5 inches! It's a big reminder of how fast they grow so we are trying to savor each moment while Abby is so tiny.

Words can't express how grateful I am to my Heavenly Father for giving me these 2 sweet spirits to raise. Nat and I feel so blessed to be their parents.

37 1/2 Weeks

I had an appointment today and everything looks great with the baby other than the fact that my amniotic fluid level is a little low. I have another appointment scheduled for next Wednesday, but my doctor wants me to come in on Monday to be checked. If the fluid level is still low, then she'll induce me that night or Tuesday morning. Is it bad of me to hope the level is low so I can be induced just under 2 weeks early? I'm still only 1 cm dilated and not really very effaced so I don't expect to go into labor on my own for a while. I guess this means I better get completely ready for the baby this weekend just in case!

Adam's Big Boy Room

It's official....Adam is a big boy! Last Friday we took down the crib and moved the changing table out and set up his new big boy room. I was SO stressed out about transitioning him into a toddler bed. I had visions of a screaming child getting out of bed a million times but it was so easy! As we took down the crib we talked about how he was getting his new big boy bed and he seemed very excited about it. He went to bed without a fuss and has continued to do so since. He still calls for us to come get him when he wakes up which is kind of funny. I thought for sure he'd get out of bed himself and come find me. I'm sure he'll realize he can do that soon enough!

This is the rag quilt I just made for him. I had wanted to make a regular cotton patchwork quilt to tie but when my Mom and I went to the fabric store to look for fabrics, they had 2 rag quilts displayed and a sign stating there was a class later that week to learn how to make one. I was nervous because it has been years since I've sewn, but with both my Mom and Nat encouraging me to do it, I signed up, learned how to make it and then got a sewing maching of my very own for Christmas from my parents. Although it was simple in the beginning, I realized after the whole thing was sewn together, that if you aren't really careful with how straight you sew your seams, eventually you're entire quilt will be off. I had to cut off a good amount on both sides to make it "square" and even and then had to add a border to make it wide enough again, but after all was said and done, I love how it turned out! It's highly impractical to actually go on his bed because of the side railings but it was a fun project and he loves to lay it out on the floor and play on it. Here is my masterpiece! :)

Now that Adam's room is complete it's on to the new nursery! It's all cleaned out (the room used to be our office/catch-all space) and ready to be painted. It's just getting around to actually painting that's the problem!

Pregnancy Update

I am 34 weeks today! Only 6 more weeks to go! This picture was taken at 33 weeks and I feel huge! At my last doctor's appointment the baby measured 4 lbs. 10 oz. (up from 3 lbs. 1 oz. at 30 weeks) so she's growing right on track. We are slowly but surely getting the nursery ready after weeks of dismantling the office, packing things up, storing furntiure and boxes at my parents' house, and finding new homes for everything else. We should be able to paint the new nursery next weekend and then the fun of setting things up, decorating, and getting everything in order can begin! My goal is to be completely ready for the baby by the end of the month so I can relax the last few weeks of this pregnancy. I don't know how time has gone by so quickly, but it's so exciting to know that we'll meet our baby girl in 6 weeks or less! Oh, and I had my doctor double check that she was still a girl...she is! I started stressing out about bringing a baby boy home to a pink nursery and girl clothes! :)

Merry Christmas!

We had a great Christmas this year. Adam was so fun and loved opening presents! Well, for a while anyway, then he got bored and just wanted to play with his new toys. Next year will be even more fun with a 3 year old and 10 month old!

The bike that Santa brought!

My cousin recommended this Strider bike to me. It doesn't have pedals so the child learns how to balance on the bike while pushing it with their feet. Apparently they get quite good and eventually will push really hard then lift their feet up and glide as they ride around. I'm picturing many walks at the park this summer with the baby in the stroller and Adam riding in front of me. He needs some practice first though!

Opening presents

We spent Christmas Eve at my parents house so my family could enjoy Christmas morning with Adam. We had so much fun playing games Christmas day that we ended up spending another night as well. We missed my sister Danielle very much. Our family just isn't complete without her but we know she is where she needs to be and pray that she will do her best to overcome the issues she is facing so that she can come back healthy and happy. Adam sure loves and misses his Aunt DeeDee!

Lights at Thanksgiving Point

On Friday night we went with my family to drive through the light display at Thanksgiving Point. We all crammed in one car and had fun watching Adam's joy and excitement as we saw the lights. It's so much more fun having a child at Christmas! Everything is amazing to him!

Adam found his hat and sunglasses the other day and wore them most of the afternoon and evening. I think he forgot they were on!

One day Adam discovered my iPod earbuds and immediately wanted me to put them in his ears so he could play the drums.....gee, I wonder where he got that idea? Maybe his Uncle Tommy who listens to music while he plays his drums?


I found this Little People Nativity set a few weeks ago online for a really good price. I saved it to give to him the night we decorated for Christmas and he just loves it! When you push the angel (or any character for that matter) down on the button on the top, the star lights up and it plays "Away in a Manger". He has loved playing with the characters and is slowly learning about the story of Christ's birth. It's so fun having a toddler for Christmas!
